Services

Seminars
We understand that there is a strong need for information and cooperation between wholesales and clients. There are many types of fish and various types of biotopes and the combinations that can be derived are numerous and nearly endless. There are still fish being discovered in the world today!
A major tool we offer our clients is our seminar: “10 ways to increase your fish department profits.”

This seminar provides you with a unique edge over your competitors by giving you in-depth information on:

  • Water parameters: What are they and how to control them?
  • Diseases: Most common diseases, descriptions of symptoms and treatments.
  • Equipment: Filtration and heating
  • Nitrogen cycle
  • Feeding: What food is best for the fish, along with an in-depth look at our line of specialty foods
  • Acclimatization: How we do it and what you need to know
  • Biotopes/grouping of fish: The different biotopes that your clients can create and which fish and decorations are suitable to reach their goal
  • Algae: Cause and solutions
  • Fish department overall maintenance: How to maximize your time while serving clients and keeping your department in clean working order
  • Client service: The tools and information needed to keep clients coming back for repeat purchases

Informed staff and the right presentation of fish and products will increase your sales dramatically. You can invest thousands in display tanks and livestock but nothing beats a trained salesforce.

At TFS we realize that stores do not always have the time or staff to train their employees and with today’s high turn over rate, training becomes a full time job. We offer comprehensive seminars to help your staff increase fish sales and their knowledge base on a wide variety of subjects like; regular store system maintenance schedules, disease identification, nutrition, compatibility, planted aquaria and all the major biotopes. We provide swift in store information sessions on general subjects upon each delivery or longer more thorough seminar at your request. We will even help acclimatize your fish with you!

Market Advice:
We tailor your order to suit your needs and not our wallets. We will provide suggestions and guide you through our new arrivals and species selection to help you ultimately increase sales and reach a larger client base. Ever dream of selling a harmonious 25 gallon African Cichlid community tank? We can show you how to make it a successful reality. If you or your clients have a special request, we have contacts throughout the industry for more than just fish, simply ask us and we will help you fill the needs of your market to keep your customers content.

Specialization:
We specialize in high quality Angelfish and Discus, rare Corydoras and Tetras, hi-color Apistogrammas and West African Cichlids, Stingrays, Loricariidae L# Plecostomus and of course all of the nicest color morphs from the African Rift Lakes. We breed many species of Cichlids, Corydoras and Plecos (including the now banned for export L# 046 Hypancistrus zebra).

Quarantine
Quality control and disease cross-contamination are our top priorities here at TFS.

All imported fish arrive in the quarantine room and undergo strict measurements with (properly calibrated) state of the art electronic test equipment like; pH, DO (dissolved oxygen), conductivity, temperature and salinity. We then mimic the exact conditions of the arriving fish in order to reduce stress factors.

After a couple of days, once they are properly feeding, certain species undergo preventative treatments recommended by our trustworthy suppliers. Once the fish have been “boosted” and gradually adjusted to our water parameters, they stay in observation until deemed ready for transfer to our wholesale facility for resale. This process usually takes a week’s time. Some species like wild Discus and Altum Angels require more time, and time and proper care is what they receive. If we have to keep them for a month, we will. You will only receive healthy, feeding, acclimatized wild fish from TFS.

Breeding
Another part of our business and our main passion is breeding.

Here are some benefits of buying from our breeding stock:

  • You can count on a consistency of genetics, health and color from our fry. Most of our fry are F1 (first generation) from imported wild breeding stock.
  • Species conservation. We bred the now banned for export infamous Zebra Pleco L# 046 (Hypancistrus zebra).
  • Most of our fish are bred in Montreal municipal tap water. Our fish are grown out in our breeding facility for several months. This reduces stress factors therefore they need no special acclimatization. DOAs are next to nothing.
  • Better pricing due to the elimination of costly factors such as freight, handling, exchange rates and customs charges.
  • Our juveniles are only fed the best quality of live, frozen and pellet foods with frequent water changes in order to assure proper growth and create a strong immune system.
  • Ability to create a demand in the market due to better pricing for you and your clients for rare fish like fancy L# Plecos or African cichlids which can be very expensive to import.
Furthermore, we are now breeding wild bettas and fish that are on the endangered list so we keep a positive impact on the environment.
